Successful year for Just Credit Union to be reported at their Annual General Meeting

Just Credit Union (JCU) holds its Annual General Meeting on 21 March and will be reporting on a successful and award winning year having helped thousands of members.  

At the annual meeting members will hear how the credit union has helped thousands of people in Shropshire by providing ethical loans and teaching vulnerable members how to act responsibly with their money.

JCU announced in their spring newsletter that in the last 12 months 500 new members joined the credit union and a total of £3.9 million being paid into members’ savings accounts throughout the financial year.  The launch of a new website has vastly increased awareness of the services it offers local people. Amongst the impressive range of user-friendly features the site now offers is the opportunity for both new and existing customers to apply for loans online 24/7.

Just Credit Union’s Chief Officer, Karen Farrow, said: “Allowing customers to open an account and apply for loans online, whenever and wherever is most convenient to them is something we have been planning to offer for some time. Our new website enables customers to do all that and more and its responsive design automatically optimises the view for any device from mobile phone to tablet to desktop.”

This year saw the Fairbanking Foundation award JCU the 5 star Fairbanking Mark for both their Community Loan and Member Loan products. To receive the award a credit union undergoes a rigorous assessment, including an independent survey by Ipsos MORI and must prove the product has features and support services which help to improve financial wellbeing.  

Karen Farrow thanked her team and puts the award down to their excellent customer service. She said: “The award not only reflects Just Credit Union’s values and ethos but also the hard work of our staff and directors. The team works incredibly diligently to deliver transparency and an excellent service to our members. Improving their financial wellbeing is at the centre of all we do and we are very pleased to have that recognised.”

As well as receiving the 5 star Mark, JCU were nominated as a finalist for the UK Social Enterprise Awards 2017 because of the positive impact they had on their community. The shortlisting was for ‘Transformative Community Business’ category.  Nominating a locally rooted social enterprise that trades for the benefit of their community and has a track record of delivering real benefits for the community they serve.
